Before and After School Care Program
For St. Theresa students, latchkey is a chance to finish homework, create art or projects and play with friends. For parents, latchkey is simply a godsend! St. Theresa of Avila Grade School’s latchkey program has provided a viable and valuable solution for St. Theresa’s working parents. With morning and afternoon care, St. Theresa’s parents are able to manage the demands of their own work day with their child’s school schedule.
Currently, St. Theresa’s morning latchkey program has from five to ten students. Students who arrive before 7:15 am receive a light breakfast. Older students may then take the opportunity to read or study while the younger students busy themselves with books, puzzles or computer games.
A busy afternoon crew can be seen finishing homework, having a snack, creating artwork, building Lego projects, playing board games or playing together outside or in the gym depending on the weather. Through the latchkey program, students have many opportunities to practice their sharing skills, learn teamwork through play and work independently on favorite projects.
During the before and after-school programs, older Rascals often help organize activities and lend an extra hand to our younger Rascals. The “big brother/big sister” atmosphere contributes to the sense of family and community that carries over into the regular school day. The latchkey program is vital to our school community and we are lucky to have such devoted, talented, patient people at its helm!
St. Theresa of Avila Grade School enrolls students from Pre-K through 8th grade. All current students are eligible to participate in either of the latchkey programs. Parents pay a small separate fee to participate in the latchkey program.

"The biggest selling point for [us] was the before and after school program... It is much cheaper than daycare, homework is done because the teachers are there if they need help." -Parent
