Salem, Illinois, January 18, 2017 – Nate Gruen, a seventh grader at St. Theresa, won the school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee on January 18th. This is the second year in a row that Nate has won. Students answered oral and written questions on geography. The 10 finalists in the Bee were: Cheyenne Neff, Micah Sanderson, Olivia Ashby, Tristan Propes, Caroline Foltz, Ryan Wuebbels, Nate Gruen, Max Morton, Drew Beer, and Tyresa Tyler.
In addition to Nate Gruen (7th grader) winning first place, Caroline Foltz (6th grader) won 2nd place and Tyresa Tyler (8th grader) won 3rd place.
Schools around the United States and in five U. S. territories participate. Nate will take a written test; up to 100 of the top scorers on that test in each state will then be eligible to compete in their state Bee.
