St. Theresa of Avila Grade School in Salem recently completed the Level 1 competition of the Modern Woodmen Speech Contest. Ten students, grades 5 through 8 advanced to the Level 1 competition which was held on March 26th. The students, who had written speeches on the topic of “The Importance of Healthy Living”, were judged by a three-person panel, Mr. John Kolmer, Mr. Gene McArdle, and Mr. Sherm Doolen. 7thgrader, Grace Foltz, won the competition followed by Kendall Bowman in second and Chloee Phillips in third. Foltz and Bowman will advance to district competition in April. The ten finalists were sixth graders Cece Crain, Mandy Fields, Christian Jourdan, Madison Reynolds, and Ty Reynolds; 7th graders Foltz, Nathan Gardner, and Spencer Reincke; and 8th graders Bowman and Phillips.
